Dean Akey's Rescue Riders Program: Preparing Bikers to Support Emergency Response Teams

Jan 9, 2008 --

Dean Akey is an avid biker and was in a motorcycle accident three years ago which left him with 60 staples in his head and every rib broken down the right side of his body. Ten people arrived to the scene of his accident and none knew how to help him.

Soon after, he created Rescue Riders - a non-profit organization that trains motorcyclists to become first responders. This public / private partnership allows bikers to utilize their enhanced mobility via two wheels to support emergency response teams.

Dean is an expert in first aid, CPR, basic medical triage, and accident scene management and trains fellow bikers in the same fields. This organization is three years old and growing. Dean's goal is to have a strong Rescue Riders presence in every city across the country.

Dean is also an Allstate agent in St. Charles, Ill. He spends his days making sure people are prepared and his nights practicing what he preaches. He is currently featured in an Allstate ad campaign promoting motorcycle insurance. The campaign spotlights real Allstate agents who ride bikes and will run throughout 2008. Dean is also scheduled to attend three motorcycle rallies in the upcoming months to speak on behalf of Allstate and continue to grow his Rescue Riders program.
